TroiaDoc - PixelRoom - Cables
Cable System
- The cable plan for the pixels is based on the Pixel boxes and the Distribution modules.
- Every pixel box has got a RJ45 jack for the data cable and a power connector.
- Every distribution module has got a RJ45 input jack (ethernet), a power connector and 16 output jacks (RJ45).
- 16 pixel boxes are connected via cat5 patch cables (RJ45 plugs, 1:1) to the outputs of a single distribution module. It is possible to connect fewer pixel boxes, but this is to be avoided for not to need too much distribution modules.
- It is best here to place a distribution module in the middle of a square of 4x4 pixel boxes to keep the cables short.
- The input jack of every distribution module is connected via a sufficient long (<= 30 m should be enough) cat5 cable (RJ45 plugs, 1:1) to the pixel switch. This switch must be able to run at 1000 Mbit at the input whereas the outputs are running at 10 Mbit. This switch is connected to a dedicated network interface card of the Pixelroom-PC.
- The excat cableing of the pixel boxes and distribution modules is to be done according to a cabling plan. Also according to this plan, the configuration files of the troia distributor (troia_dist) have to be created.
- The power supply of the pixel boxes is done using the build-in XLR-plug. Using an adapter cable with XLR-jacks, the pixel box is connected to regulated 5V switching power supplies. (Every pixel box need 1.5A.) There must be several circuits on the 230V side to achieve a balanced phase load.
- The power supply of the distribution modules is done using separate switched mode power supplies. Here, not much current is needed, so it's possible to use the power supply circuit of the pixel boxes at the 230V side.
Power Supply
- There were different concepts to realize the power supply of the pixel boxes.
- few bigger spoer supplies
- many small wall power supplies
- many small power supplies on the circuit board
- Solution 1 has shown to be the cheapest.
- One Pixel Box need a maximum current of 1.5A. The maximum output current of the Lambda SWS75-5 is 15A. We connect 10 Pixel Boxes to one SWS75-5.
